Liverpool are now forced to confront a reality they have long avoided, identifying 19-year-old Yan Diomande as their priority to succeed the Egyptian. With decision-makers at the club reportedly unified in their approval, the foundations for a massive transition have been laid. According to Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal), concrete talks are currently underway between Liverpool and Diomande’s new representatives at Roc Nation Sports, though formal club-to-club negotiations are yet to commence.

Diomande - Player Profile

Diomande’s trajectory has been exceptionally fast. He honed his skills at the DME Academy in Florida before transitioning to Europe with CD Leganés in Spain, where he became their youngest-ever La Liga scorer. His breakthrough earned a €20 million move to RB Leipzig in July 2025, where he immediately impressed, becoming the second-youngest player to score a Bundesliga hat-trick.

Operating primarily as an inverted winger, Diomande excels in high-intensity, transitional football. He has registered 12 league goals and six assists this season, completing 102 successful dribbles. His capacity to receive the ball wide and confidently drive into the half-spaces makes him a constant offensive threat. While naturally right-footed, he is highly comfortable finishing with his left, making his attacking movements unpredictable.

Liverpool have sorely missed this specific blend of explosive ball-carrying and clinical finishing throughout the current campaign. Diomande offers exactly what the squad requires to address this void. Coming from the Leipzig system, he is thoroughly educated in defensive transitions, making him an ideal match for Arne Slot’s high-pressing demands.

His underlying metrics indicate his high output is sustainable rather than a temporary run of form. Beyond his dominance on the right flank, his versatility allows him to operate effectively as a left midfielder or a second striker. At 19, he fits the club's strategy perfectly, offering a long-term solution to ease the team's attacking workload. The club is challenged to execute this transfer before their European rivals intervene.
