Mo Salah: The 6 Most Iconic Goals of His Career

By Steve Northover

Over the years, Liverpool have had a number of players who could rightly be called iconic. But very few have had the reach and power of Mohammed Salah.

When he arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2017, there was little fanfare for the player seen as the best of his generation at Liverpool.

Fast forward to last weekend, the Egyptian scored his 250th goal for the club. With only Roger Hunt and Ian Rush ahead of him in the club’s all time top scorer lists, his legacy has long been guaranteed. He is one of Liverpool's best and most important players in the club’s illustrious history.

With that in mind, let’s produce, in no particular order, Mo Salah’s best six goals for Liverpool.

Liverpool Vs Chelsea, 14th April 2019.

The 2019 was when the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool began to bore real fruit. The Reds eventually won that season’s Champion’s League. In this particular match, however, the buildup was dominated by the narrative of Mo Salah ‘downing’ a resurgent Chelsea FC. Added to this was a video of Chelsea fans racially abusing Salah surfaced online. Liverpool eventually ran out as 2-0 winners, going two points clear at the top of the table, before losing the league title to Manchester City on the last day of the season.

Liverpool Vs Southampton 18th November 2017

We go back to Salah’s record breaking first season at Liverpool.

This was a one sided match throughout, with Southampton limited to a single shot on target, but it was Liverpool's attacking prowess that took the headlines. In one of football’s great “what if” moments, Mo Salah showed outstanding chemistry with Philippe Coutinho who also found the net in the match. It’s a performance that makes you wonder how far Liverpool could have gone had the Brazilian not been tempted away by the temptation of a certain Catalan giant.

Liverpool Vs Everton 17th December 2018

This one is special. So special in fact that it won the 2018 Puskas Award. However, there is some argument to say that this isn’t even Salah’s best goal for Liverpool but given the opposition there is always something special about scoring a worldie in December.

Liverpool Vs Manchester United, 19th April 2022.

Truth be known, the entire article could have been about goals Mo Salah has scored against Manchester United.

Egyptian has scored seventeen times against Manchester United, but this was the pick of the bunch, notably because of a Sadio Mane pass that had no right being as good as it was. A year later and two United managers later, Liverpool really would run riot, going on to win 7-0.

Liverpool Vs Watford, 16th October 2021

Another example of quick feet, dazzling skills and a predatory finish.

It wasn't a particularly competitive match. Liverpool went on to win the game 5-0. But take nothing away from Mo Salah, it was a masterful piece of skill and control, and something he would go on to do again.

Liverpool Vs Manchester City 3rd October 2021

The Watford goal is an almost carbon copy of this one, The difference being the team Liverpool were playing against. The rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool, Klopp and Guardiola, and the players was absolutely special. The 201-22 season is one of those seasons where Liverpool and Manchester City were at their imperious best, a million miles ahead of the rest of the league, and phishing each other to higher and higher performances, and at the Heart of it was Mohammed Salah and his goal.
