The Merseyside derby returns with more than just local pride at stake! Liverpool and Everton are facing off this Saturday at Goodison Park. With both sides looking to build momentum and climb the ladder, this fixture particularly possesses enormous significance at a crucial stage of the season.

Recent Form:

Liverpool are currently sitting in 10th position in the WSL with 3 wins, 5 draws, and 10 losses from 18 matches. The Reds are showing steadiness at home (3W-3D-3L).  However, the challenges are still there without an away win, which hinders their overall progress.

In contrast, Everton is sitting at 6th with 20 Pts. at the table. Everton vividly draws a slight advantage when it comes to away matches with a stronger record (4W-2D-4L).  A recent win over Tottenham and a narrow defeat to Manchester United reflect their ability to challenge stronger sides, although inconsistency remains a concern.

Importance of fixture:

This upcoming fixture will be a deciding factor for both teams. Everton needs to win this match in order to strengthen their top 5 finish. Similarly with Liverpool the stakes are higher too, as we are just above the relegation zone. A victory will give much breathing space to navigate the rest of the matches with confidence.

Players to watch:

Additionally, there are a couple of players to watch out for in this respective match! Ceri Holland of Liverpool is the most consistent player of Liverpool currently. Majorly contributing to steady performances and assists. Also,  Beata Olsson continues to provide consistent goal threats across the competition. On the other side, the Blues winger and midfielder Ornella Vignola made an immediate impact with a hat-trick in the reverse fixture. Katja Snoeijs also stands out as a dependable forward, with a strong record of delivering in key moments, including derby fixtures.

If we look into the stats, Everton won 11 times compared to Liverpool, who bagged 2 wins, with 2 draws in the WSL. Liverpool’s last win against Everton dates back to 2019; since then, Everton has dominated, including a massive 4-1 win at Anfield.

Now the question arises, can the Reds demolish the 8-year-long drought? With a significant margin at stake, both teams arrive with a daunting desire to score points. The outcome very likely will shape the position for both sides.

Prediction:

2-1 Liverpool
