As the New Year began, Liverpool’s form looked shaky, reflecting their struggles in the league. However, four months in, there are signs of improvement. Their performances in January were noticeably better, showing more cohesion and attacking intent.

While this progress is encouraging, consistency will be key if Liverpool are to climb out of the relegation zone and maintain their place in the WSL. The team must maintain this level of performance over the coming months to ensure they stay competitive and avoid slipping further down the table.

An Opportunity Missed

An opportunity missed for Liverpool as they were held to a goalless draw in a tightly fought but low-key contest against London City Lionesses at St Helens. Despite enjoying more of the ball and looking the more threatening side for long periods, the hosts were unable to turn their promising moments into clear-cut chances, allowing a well-organised London City Lionesses’ side to leave with a share of the spoils.

Into the Fifth Round

Liverpool booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a dominant display, scoring six goals and controlling the match throughout. A fast start set the tone early on, with the Reds immediately pinning London Bees back in their own half and creating a stream of chances.

Debut goals from Denise O’Sullivan, Martha Thomas, and Alice Bergstrom added to an impressive attacking showing, as Liverpool’s quality proved too much for the hosts, resulting in a comprehensive victory and a confident step into the next round.

First WSL Win

Liverpool claimed their first Women’s Super League win of the season with a dramatic 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the St Helens Stadium, scoring twice deep into stoppage time to seal all three points. After a dominant first-half display that saw the Reds create the better chances but head into the break goalless, Gareth Taylor’s side maintained their pressure throughout the second half.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the fourth minute of added time when Mia Enderby turned home from close range, before the forward struck again moments later to cap off a memorable afternoon.

Liverpool Remain Bottom

At the start of this month, Liverpool remain bottom of the league after a spirited display. Manchester United proved too strong in the second half as Lisa Naalsund’s brace and a late goal from Frida Rolfo secured the points with Alice Bergstrom scoring for Liverpool.

A Crucial February Ahead

The rest of February will be a crucial period for Liverpool as they look to build momentum. With West Ham just a point ahead in 11th, every league match counts. Liverpool face a challenging run, starting with Aston Villa on Sunday, followed by Chelsea next week and an FA Cup clash against Everton in the fifth round on 22 February.

The squad has also been strengthened with the signings of Alice Bergstrom, Jennifer Falk (loan), Anna Josendal, Martha Thomas (loan), Denise O’Sullivan, and Aurelie Csillag, all of whom are expected to make valuable contributions. If Liverpool can combine these reinforcements with consistent performances, February could be a turning point in their season.
