Paul Doyle Pleads Guilty to Liverpool Parade Charges
By Steven Northover
The driver of the car that plowed into Liverpool supporters during the 2025 Premier League Champions parade in May, has pleaded guilty to all 31 charges brought upon him.
Paul Doyle, 54 and from Croxeth, admitted to dangerous driving, seventeen counts of attempting Grievous Bodily Harm, nine counts of GBH with intent, and a further three counts of wounding with intent.
The incident happened towards the end of the parade at around 1800, where Doyle in a Ford Galaxy Titanium, drove into a large group of fans as they began to walk home. Over 130 people were injured, some seriously, between the ages of 6 and 77 years old. Despite the severity of the incident, there were no fatalities.
In court, Doyle wept as the charges were ready to him. Sarah Hammond, from the CPS, stated,
“Dashcam footage from Doyle's vehicle shows that as he approached Dale Street and Water
Street, he became increasingly agitated by the crowds,”
"Rather than wait for them to pass, he deliberately drove at them, forcing his way through.”
"This was not a momentary lapse by Paul Doyle — it was a choice he made that day and it turned celebration into mayhem.”
A two day sentencing hearing will take place between 15-16 December, again at Liverpool Crown Court, with Doyle being warned that it is ‘inevitable’ that he will be handed a custodial sentence of ‘some length’.
Liverpool FC released a statement following the guilty plea, stating "We would like to thank our emergency services and partner agencies – Merseyside Police, North West and St John Ambulance Services, Merseyside Fire & Rescue – and members of the public, who responded with such bravery and compassion on the day. Their actions undoubtedly saved lives and exemplified the spirit of our city."
