BREAKING: Liverpool Contact PGMOL over Van Dijk Offside
by Steven Northover
Liverpool Football Club have contacted the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the organisation that oversees refereeing in the professional game, in protest of an offside decision during their 3-0 loss to Manchester City this weekend.
Virgil van Dijk had a headed goal ruled out as offside, due to Andrew Robinson obstructing the view of the Manchester City goalkeeper.
At the time, Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, said:
“For me it was a wrong decision that this goal was not allowed, but I will not say because of that we lost the game.”
The offside in this match is similar to another situation involving Manchester City last season against Wolverhampton Wanders, where Bernardo Silva was on a similar position to Robinson, however on that occasion, the goal was given.
Van Dijk also said post match:
“Someone showed me a clip that Manchester City scored last year against Wolves and the referee was the same. I don’t know, I’ve already said too much because the thing is, the decision has been made. We lost 3-0 and we don’t make excuses in that sense. We have to take it on the chin and move on.”
Neither the club or the PGMOL have made official comments.
"I think it's really harsh"
