Arne Slot discusses Liverpool’s injury situation, away form concerns, and the importance of the clash with Aston Villa as the Reds continue their push for Champions League qualification. The two sides are currently level on 59 points.

Ibrahima Konate's available, while Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz are a doubt

The Liverpool manager confirmed Ibrahima Konate is fit and available for the trip to Villa Park, while Mo Salah has returned to training and could feature from the bench.

“Mo Salah trained with the squad,” Arne Slot said. “He will be available for a few minutes.”

There was less certainty surrounding Florian Wirtz, however, after the midfielder missed training through illness.

“Florian has had a stomach infection and is on antibiotics,” the manager explained. “We still need to see if he can recover in time.”

Alisson Becker's return still uncertain

Slot also provided an update on goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who will be assessed before a final decision is made on his involvement.

“We will assess him tomorrow to see whether he is ready, or has to wait one more week,” he said.

The Liverpool boss also addressed speculation surrounding Alisson’s future and whether supporters should prepare for a farewell appearance.

“Our fans need to support Alisson, no matter if it is his last game or if it was his first game,” he said. “That is what they have always done. If he is in goal tomorrow or next week, our fans will support him. The same goes for next season.”

Away form remains a major concern

The Dutchman admitted Liverpool’s struggles on the road have played a significant role in their inconsistent campaign.

“We have dropped far too many points in away games,” he explained. “That is one of the reasons why we have not yet qualified for the Champions League.”

He believes European fixtures have had a clear impact on domestic performances away from Anfield.

“It has mainly happened while playing in Europe and in games Liverpool are usually able to win,” he said. “The first challenge is to be fitter and more ready to play after Europe and I think we have progressed in that.”

He also highlighted Liverpool’s inability to see out matches as an area that must improve.

“We have many times been in a good place after 70 or 80 minutes but dropped points in the last phase of the game,” he added.

Arne Slot confident over Liverpool future

When asked whether he expects to remain Liverpool manager next season, he expressed confidence while acknowledging the decision is not entirely his alone.

“I don’t think I am deciding that alone,” he said. “But I have every reason to believe I’m the Liverpool manager next season.”

He also suggested preparations for the future are already well underway behind the scenes.

“We know where we go on tour,” he explained. “Plans have been made and talks have been ongoing between the club and new players, and I am involved in that.”

Praise for players despite difficult season

Despite Liverpool’s inconsistencies, he praised the commitment of his squad throughout what he described as a physically and mentally demanding campaign.

“I have the most respect for these players,” he said. “They have had a difficult season, physically and mentally, but they have been constantly available.”

With just two games of the Premier League season left, Liverpool will be looking to end the season in a positive manner.
