Liverpool has announced plans to build a permanent monument to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva outside Anfield. The brothers were tragically killed last summer, after Diogo's car left the road outside Zamora, Spain, following medical advice not to fly back to Liverpool due to injury.

The monument, a Granby-rock plinth, will be engraved with the names of both brothers.

Also, along with the Granby-rock, objects and momentos left by mourning fans in the makeshift memorial garden outside Anfield following his death will be recycled into the structure, meaning a part of the Liverpool supporters will be forever linked to the Portuguese brothers.

There will also be references to Diogo and Andre's life outside of football, including gaming and family, as a reminder of the men, in what the club has called a celebration of their "lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world".

The monument will continue Liverpool's ‘Forever 20’ pledge, which has led to the club retiring Jota's 20 shirt number, while also honouring the forward's £140,000-a-week contract and leaving the money to his family.

How and what the final monument will look like remains to be seen; however, it should be a suitable memorial to a striker that touched the hearts of millions - not just at Liverpool - and whose untimely death was both shocking and heartbreaking, coming so soon after his marriage to his childhood sweetheart and the mother of his three children.
