Despite having been linked with the winger since the start of the Transfer Window, via a minor detour to Yan Diomande, Liverpool have yet to nail down the winger - despite the 23-year-old being keen on a move to Merseyside.

A major sticking point, and seemingly the only one, was the price the Reds were being asked to pay. An initial bid of between €80 and 90 million was rejected by the Ligue 1 Champions, who were looking towards a value of €160-170 million for Barcola. A back-and-forth began between the two clubs, with Red’s officials in daily contact with their Parisian counterparts into last week, where dialogue remained open; however, from Liverpool’s head office at Anfield.

However, with Liverpool appearing to turn their attention to Crystal Palace winger Yankuba Minteh and Barcola still steadfast in his want to leave the Parc des Princes, it seems like a compromise is about to be reached, according to David Ornstein,

Any positive outcome for the Reds appeared even more pertinent following Liverpool’s arguably lucky draw against Newcastle United, where the forward line struggled to impose themselves, despite having the lion share of control over the 90 minutes - and Andoni Iraola (no to mention the fans) will be keen to land the 28 capped French International for what will almost certainly become a long and bruising campaign on Merseyside.

Whether links to Minteh were a ruse remains to be seen - Minteh does play on the opposite wing to Barcola - but if the Reds want to make something out of a season already appearing to be one of transition, landing one (or both) of their signatures is a must in this final week of the Summer Window.
