Juventus have been linked with the Brazilian goalkeeper with reports in Italy even suggesting they had offered the 33-year-old a contract. However, Liverpool are showing no willingness to allow their legendary goalkeeper to leave the club this summer.
Alisson has struggled for fitness over the last three years, missing 32 league games. However, Giorgi Mamardashvili’s mixed fortunes covering for the Brazilian may have convinced the Reds to give their long-standing number 1 another season.
Mamardashvili, signed from Valencia two summers ago, kept just two clean sheets in 10 league appearances last season. The Georgian wasn’t all to blame for Liverpool’s defensive failures, however, he failed to win the faith of fans at Anfield with his performances.
With the departures of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate this summer, Liverpool can’t afford to lose another key figure in the dressing room. Therefore, the decision to keep Alisson makes perfect sense.
The 33-year-old proved to be one of the most important signings in Liverpool history. After joining from Roma in a record breaking £65 million transfer, the Brazilian replaced Loris Karius in goal and quickly turned the Reds into one of the best defences in Europe.
Alisson made a few excellent saves as the Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur to win the Champions League in his first season. Seven years later, the Brazilian pulled off a brilliant save to deny Kevin Schade last weekend to secure Liverpool’s spot in the same competition next season.
In March, Liverpool triggered an option in the 33-year-old’s contract to keep him on Merseyside until the summer of 2027. Making 333 appearances and winning two Premier League titles, Alisson has become a great at Anfield.
Thankfully for Liverpool fans, His story is not over yet.
