Arne Slot has been a sour subject amongst Liverpool fans recently, with the Dutchman's position as manager splitting opinion throughout the fanbase and ultimately leading to most wanting a change in the summer or earlier.

Slot has led Liverpool to a Champions League quarter final and a FA Cup quarter final as well as currently being fifth in the League, five points off fourth placed Aston Villa.
There has not been significant progression in Slot’s second season, despite Liverpool remaining in two competitions and in contention for the top four.
However, it is the performances that are the main reason for the current disarray, throwing away games and not showing up at home has been a common theme of Liverpool's season so far.
The pressure that comes with winning a league title meant that this season has not met expectations.

According to David Ornstein, Liverpool are expected to keep Arne Slot rather than have Xabi Alonso waiting in the wings for his former club to sack his predecessor is a massive call by the hierachy.
The first two games after the international break are Manchester City in the FA Cup and PSG at the Parc De Princes, so the chance of winning silverware could be gone within five days and the pressure would mount further on the Dutchman ahead of the Fulham game the following Saturday.

An argument for Slot remaining in charge to the end would be Liverpool's unfortunate injury list which has seen the likes of Isak, Alisson, Bradley and the departing Salah miss a lot of football this season. The 'shiny new toy' factor is a common thought amongst fans, a rejig in the manager department for example, allows fans to stay on their toes and know that their club is very frequent in aiming to focus on more short-term success.

There is an element of that with former Liverpool legend, Xabi Alonso who has had a very action-packed management career so far as well as winning three major trophies for the Reds now being available. Therefore, this has intensified rumours that there could be a deal agreed in the summer. If Alonso were to replace Slot, it would provide the Spaniard with a massive opportunity to prove he still has what it takes to manage a massive club.

Alonso had a difficult time at Real Madrid. Not necessarily with results but dealing with everything that comes with managing arguably the biggest club in the world. Dealing with the likes of Vinicius Jr and Mbappe and Bellingham, trying to keep the ‘Galacticos’ happy as well as implementing your high pressing, strict style of play is a very tough challenge. His sacking wasn't based on his tactical ideas and knowledge with the double he won at Bayern Leverkusen proving his quality. However, if Alonso was to take over from now until the end of the season, this is how the Spanish manager would likely set up with the players available.

At Madrid, Alonso would set up with a back four, which was a consistent theme during his tenure. Even though he has the ability to be fluid and can set up in different formations, returning to his tactics at Leverkusen would benefit a lot of Liverpool's current players and also suit potential arrivals in the summer.

Predicted Alonso Starting XI

Formation: 3-4-2-1

Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Frimpong, Wirtz, Salah, Ekitike
