Liverpool’s U21 fought from 2 goals down to draw with Chelsea with two familiar names on the scoresheet.
Liverpool U21s showed their fighting spirit once again this weekend as they came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow.
Rob Page’s side endured a nightmare start, falling behind after just two minutes when Harrison McMahon capitalised on a Liverpool mistake before firing it across Harvey Davies and into the net.
Will Wright had an opportunity to level after stealing possession from the last defender, but a heavy touch allowed the Chelsea goalkeeper to collect the ball.
Liverpool were punished again in the 19th minute. Kendry Paez drove through midfield before finding Sol Gordon, who finished emphatically to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead.
Wright continued his excellent start to the season by pulling one back just six minutes later. The striker produced a smart finish to score his 10th goal in all competitions this campaign.
Liverpool completed the comeback shortly after half-time through Jayden Danns. The 20-year-old scored a superb direct free-kick from distance to make it 2-2 and register his first goal of the season.
Neither side could find a winner as Liverpool left Kingsmeadow with a point despite their difficult start.
Wright continues to be one of the standout performers in Rob Page’s side this season. The former Salford City striker has now reached double figures for goals and has established himself as a regular threat at U21 level.
Danns’ goal was also an encouraging moment following another injury-disrupted spell. His free-kick was his first goal of the 2026/27 campaign and helped Liverpool rescue a point against strong opposition.
Simon Wiles’ U18s enjoyed an even better weekend as they responded to a difficult run of results with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Sunderland.
Remarkably, the game was still goalless at half-time before Liverpool scored seven times in a devastating second-half performance.
Captain Finn Inglethorpe opened the scoring five minutes after the restart, heading home an Erik Farkas cross.
Daniel Majekodunmi doubled Liverpool’s advantage before winning possession and setting up Inglethorpe for his second goal of the afternoon.
Farkas then got himself on the scoresheet after being found by Inglethorpe before the captain completed his first Liverpool hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Farkas added his second with an excellent free-kick before Lenix Conde completed the rout by converting Cam Williams’ cross.
Inglethorpe’s hat-trick took him to 10 goals for the season and continued an excellent individual campaign for the U18 captain.
AJ Yeguo was also a constant threat down the left-hand side despite not getting himself on the scoresheet, while the clean sheet will have been particularly pleasing for Wiles after Liverpool’s defensive struggles in recent weeks.
The result ended a run of four games without a victory in all competitions and represented a huge response after Liverpool had conceded six against Manchester United in their previous league outing.
Wiles highlighted the defensive performance after the game, praising the foundation provided by his back line before Liverpool’s attacking players took control of the match.
Liverpool U18s are back in action on Saturday, November 7, when they host Ipswich Town in the U18 Premier League Cup.
th, where they take on Stoke City.
