With Arne Slot now sacked as manager, Liverpool appear to want to hit the ground running, and seem to want to get the next manager in before the start of the World Cup - which starts on 11th June.  With that in mind, clear favourite Andoni Iraola is set to meet with club representatives this week to discuss terms.

Interestingly, Iraola was originally in the short list to replace Jürgen Klopp - with FSG admiring the former Rayo Vallecano manager's high energy, aggressive, attacking style of play, similar to that of the German. However, Liverpool's stats-based evaluation system lead to Arne Slot being given the role instead.

The former Bournemouth manager, who lead the South Coast club into Europe for the first time on their history, has built up a number of admirers around Europe and the Premier League, but seems set to join the Reds. Indeed, the Spaniard chose to pull out of talks with AC Milan to signify his willingness to take the job at Liverpool, even before Slot was sacked.

Whether that was the catalyst to what as happened over the last twenty four hours or so, is a discussion for another article. But what is clear, is that interest from both sides is concrete, and a positive outcome should arrive in a matter of days.
